Greetings!‘Our Languages’, a group set up within the Department of Russian andSlavonic Studies in Trinity College, Dublin is organising a conferenceon minority languages in Ireland on 21-22 November. The first part ofthe conference, Saturday morning, is concerned with the status,maintenance and support of minority languages and cultures. The secondpart, Saturday afternoon and Sunday, focuses more specifically on theRussian language.One of the aims of the conference is to identify whether Ireland hasor needs a policy for managing cultural and linguistic diversity. Wewill be looking at issues such as the National Development Plancommitment to diversify the provision of languages in the post-primarysector, and asking whose responsibility is the transmission of thehome language.
