Centre for Creative Practicesa new arts centre in Dublin

Many Happy returns to all of us!!!
This month we celebrate our first birthday. We have been around one year... Wow!!! Thanks for all your interest, support, and presence. It means a lot to us!!!Therefore we have prepared a very special programme for September to celebrate the first birthdays of CFCP and fourth birthday of ArtPolonia which both fall together with the Dublin Culture Night on the 24th September.Our programme for the 24th September includes a concert by a trio VOICES, ANIMATED GRAPHIC SCORES project by Shane Mc Kenna and World Music Event featuring Jacek Halas, his friends musicians from Poland and Lithuania and the Slovak Folk Group Ostroha. VOICES – 6.30 at CFCP - The free vocal and site-specific improvisation concert will take place in the various spaces available at CFCP in- and outside of our venue. We promise a mesmerising experience.ANIMATED GRAPHIC SCORES - from 8pm. Shane Mc Kenna will present his collaborative project for professional and amateur acoustic and electronic musicians performing together the animated graphic scores developed by Shane.For New Communities and all interested in World Music, ArtPolonia together with the Temple Bar Cultural Trust is co-coordinating a musical stage at the Civic Offices to present in Dublin the most appealing voices from the Eastern European Folk Music. An energetic concert and dance workshops will take place from 6pm till 8pm. The German Movie Night – 5th Sep at 6pm will be presenting Lichter/The distant lights by Hans-Christian Schmidt (14 prizes and 10 nominations at international festivals!!!) and Auf der anderen Seite /Edge of Heaven by a German-Turkish director Fatih Akin - the winner at the Cannes Film Festival 2009. At Photobase on the 16th September at 7pm we are hosting A Light Evening curated by Angel Luis Gonzales, Director of the PhotoIreland Festival. A Light Evening is a series of open talks for everyone to show and discuss photographic work. More details click here >>
Our second Experimental Music Evening (EME) on the 27th September at 8pm will feature Pacific 231 a/k/a Pierre Jolivet and his latest project Im’shi. The performance is a live improvisation involving an electronic canvas, an instantaneous visual feedback incorporated to real-time 2D/3D imagery and responding to the sound material. At the Creative Café on the 21st September at 8pm we will present a project by Liubov Kadyrova on the creation and destruction of a large scale multi-media collage in relation to her reflection on the value of art in the recession. More details click here >>

04.09.10Artists United in the Aid of GosiaThe event will feature 18 different artists and 2 DJs who donated their amazing works for our friend Gosia. She is 25 years old. In April 2010, seven years after her last therapy, doctors diagnosed cancer regression causing drastic changes in her life. Presently Gosia struggles with her illness going through another chemotherapy to save her life. An illness does not choose but you may choose to help.Admission €53 - 9pm

11.09.10Photography WorkshopDocumenting Artwork for Publication with Hugh Mc ElveenReproducing accurate colour and making sure that artwork is evenly lit without unwanted shadow can be a challenging task for artists wanting to document their own work. This course teaches you how to record your work using available light and other techniques that artists have access to without significant financial outlay. 16.09.10PhotobaseA Light EveningAt our Photobase event on the 16th September we are hosting “A Light Evening” curated by Angel Luis Gonzalez, Director of the PhotoIreland Festival.A Light Evening is a series of open talks for everyone to show and discuss photographic work. Next Thursday the 16th of September you are invited to bring your images - a USB stick with screen resolution images should do - and to participate in these 2 hours session. We will organise the time slots and make sure that as much as possible everyone has the chance to show their own work. Some curators, gallerists and the press may attend and participate. You will enjoy great exposure, but above all the opportunity to share your views, network, and gain an outside perspective on your practice. Tea, Coffee, Herbal Tea will be provided. 18.09.10Linocut Workshopwith Marta Wakula-Mac. During the work the participants will focus on variety of line, different texture, negative and positive image. They will be introduced to a method of how to apply ink on to a plate and two different methods of printing of single and multi-colour plates; by hand and on the printing press. 22.09.10Photography WorkshopCreative Image Compositionwith Hugh McElveen10 weeksThis is a project based course that explores the rules and tricks behind composition and content of photographs to create a visual impact. It contains a mix of theory, appreciation and practical content. The course led by an experienced and renowned photographer Hugh Mc Elveen will take place in small groups (max 8 people) and therefore will assure individual attention, personal advice, answers and feedback. Participants should be familiar with the basics of photography and with their cameras functions (exposure, aperture, shutter speeds etc.). By the end of the course participants will have developed an initial idea towards completion and will have honed their technical ability. The focus is also on understanding composition, lighting and technical settings for different creative uses. 6.30 - 8pmMembers €250Non-Members €275
21.09.10Creative CaféSmaller than Life – a project on creating an art piece, exhibiting it and finally destroying by Liubov Kadyrova Liubov Kadyrova will create a large scale mixed-media work over the course of a week preceding the Creative Cafe and destroy it as a part of her performance and artist’s talk on the 21st September. Her contribution aims to explore the value of art in the recession and invites spectators to view the process of creation and destruction. This project has been previously presented in Berlin and provoked intense responses from the artist and the viewers, challenging ideas of the importance of art within our lives.Members €5 Non-Members €7.508 - 10pm

24.09.10Culture Night 2010 @ CFCP “VOICES”A mesmerising concert by a free vocal improvisation trio. Voices comprise vocalists Dorothy Murphy, Sue Rynhart and Tuula Voutilainen. Exploring energy - past, present and future - Voices will present a site-specific performance inspired by the various spaces available in and outside this beautiful Georgian building. Voices - this trio’s experience draws from classical and early music, jazz, electro-acoustic music, noise, psychedelic rock and theatre. However, at times the bareness of the three voices, often unamplified, is shocking. The most essential ingredient of their practice is simply inhabiting the here-and-now, weathering the uncertainty, exposure and confusion on the one hand, and excitement, elation and adventure on the other. 6.30 - 7.30pm
24.09.10Culture Night 2010 @ CFCPAnimated Graphic ScoresConcert of acoustic and electronic/noise musicians interpreting live animated graphic scored by Shane Mc KennaAnimated graphic scores consist of moving shapes and symbols, which may be interpreted and performed as sounds. This event developed by Shane Mc Kenna looks to explore the collaborative nature of graphic score performance with a large gathering of professional and amateur musicians creating a unique musical experience through interpretation, listening and performing. Everyone is encouraged to bring an instrument or noise-making device along and join in. 8 - 9pm

This time, the artist will show twenty seven of her favorite imagesRuns from 30.09 - 07.10.10Twenty Seven – a photography exhibition by Magda Nowacka. The selection for this show consists of traditional and surreal photos of landscapes which were taken by using a variety of techniques including infrared and ND filters, long exposures, macro and fisheye lenses long exposures and conceptual photos showing everyday life from "a different perspective".7pm
New Monthly Events in CFCP


CFCP Cinema
CFCP CINEMA has been set up as a totally open-access initiative - we have no selection process and no censorship*. We show what we're given and let the audience make up their minds. All we want is to celebrate the diversity of the moving image and share it with our audiences. The lack of pre-selection induces a greater element of chance and a possibility for the utmost variety.(*Of course, we also need to make sure that any type of pornography, films presenting paedophilia, racist or fascist content will not be considered for screenings.) CFCP CINEMA shows take place once per month on the second Monday of each month. We aim to show ALL kind of films and videos at each show. The shows will be 2.5 hours long with a short break. We will provide a relaxing informal atmosphere, big screen, good sound, tea & coffee and you are more than welcome to bring your own refreshments with you. We will introduce the films and the film makers are encouraged to answer questions on their films if they so wish. We keep the entrance price as low as we can - €5 for members & €7.50 for non members - we still have to pay the rent.

CREATIVE CAFÉ Are you looking for a relaxed evening with other creative people to present and discuss your work and exchange creative ideas???CFCP is announcing its monthly Creative Cafe as a meet up and exchange platform to provide an insight into various creative processes and a reflexion on their impact.
CREATIVE CAFÉ has a leaning towards new / experimenta l /interactive / fringe / underground and any kind of interesting artistic activities with a particular focus on presenting your work to audiences and other artists, building new relationships, exchanging ideas, hearing leading creatives talk about their projects, presenting submissions for the CFCP Call for Artists and taking part in discussions on various creative topics.

PHOTOBASE has been set up to present a series of debates and talks, discussions and workshops by photographers and reviewers on their past and newest projects. The monthly event will showcase work by national and international photographers to the audiences in Dublin.

Experimental Music Evening (EME)
A monthly event devoted to new & experimental music. EME incorporates talks, gigs, installations, screenings, workshops and all happenings of experimental, musical expression. EME was set up with the aim of providing a home for all kinds of new music outside of the mainstream. Our aim is to provide a platform for composers, musicians & performers to present and discuss their work among themselves and with CFCP audiences.
