NYCI intercultural training course
NYCI is delivering a new two-day intercultural training course on ‘How to design and deliver a session on Intercultural Awareness’ in Dublin city centre on Wednesday 24 March and Thursday 25 March 2010. This training course has never been run by NYCI in Dublin to date and the 24/25 March is the only date for this course in Dublin in 2010. To apply, please complete the attached form and return to us with payment of €50 per day per participant via training@nyci.ie. Full advance payment is vital to secure your place. “How to Design and Deliver a Session on Intercultural Awareness” Date: Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th March 2010Time: 10.15am – 4.30pm each day Location: Dublin City This new two-day course is designed to explore the theory and methodologies required to address interculturalism in a youth work setting. On day one the course follows the structure of the ‘Intercultural Awareness and Cultural Competency’ training day. On the second day participants will develop practical skills to engage with young people and volunteers in a multi-ethnic setting, as well as planning and delivering their own session on Intercultural Awareness.Learning content: Day One – Cultural Competency and Intercultural Awareness· Understanding culture and identifying aspects of own culture· The role of culture in communication · How different cultures and ethnic groups interact with each other · Identifying different ways of working and communicating· Recognizing the different stages of cultural competency Day Two – Planning a session on intercultural awareness for your youth group · Understanding interculturalism· Identifying and overcoming barriers within the youth service· Introducing team planning tools to discuss intercultural youthwork· Plan for and briefly present a session on intercultural awareness for a youth group. Designed for:This course will suit individuals that have an ongoing professional relationship – voluntary or staff - with young people, youth and community workers who work with young people in out-of-school settings.
